Our Mission
Utah Doberman Rescue is a 501c3 that is run by volunteers and by its parent club, the Salt Lake Doberman Pinscher Club. UDR was started in the mid seventies by Ernie Moss (now deceased) & Edie Schoepp who after a few years burned out. The rescue was restablished in 1991 with Marsha Sheppard taking over the rescue, and she is still in charge today. We have changed and evolved over time to the rescue you all know today. We work hard to take in as many Dobermans as we can, and then place them in well vetted homes.
We help Dobermans in all situations of life such as owners who are moving, going through a divorce, unclaimed strays from animal shelters, and some are victims of abuse and neglect.
We serve all of Utah but most our Dobermans come from the Salt Lake City and Ogden areas. We also happily serve Dobermans from much of the intermountain region, including Wyoming, and Idaho.
Whenever possible our dogs are placed in foster homes until they can be placed. The shortage of foster homes has caused most of the dogs to be kept in a boarding kennel until we can place them. We try very hard to evaluate the needs of both prospective owners and the Dobermans in need to find the right match.
The Utah Doberman Rescue pays for all expenses related to each dog in our care. This includes a veterinary exam, vaccinations, spaying or neutering, micro-chipping, treating for worms, and heartworm testing. Obviously this is very expensive and any help is greatly appreciated. The new approved owners pay a required donation of $250 to the rescue. This allows us to partially cover such cost and help the next doberman in need.
